What a fun time to be winter camping!! The snowiest winter and snowiest February in the history of Philadelphia and we spent most of it outside – we truly are a hearty troop!

The Klondike Derby at the beginning of the month was one for the ages. The snowfall that hit Friday night and into Saturday made for a perfect day for the sleds and the troop did exceptionally well at the competitions. We teamed-up with our cabin-mates from Troop 61 to form the new "Bare-Chested Men" patrol who achieved third-place in the sled race.  For the Derby competition one of our sled teams came in second place in their division (if you know the name of the division make a point to see me!) and our Senior Division team came in first by a convincing margin.   Congratulations to all the sleds and the leaders who made this trip a success.

Our trip to the Valley Forge Pilgrimage and Encampment was another one-of-a-kind experience.  Our first order of business when we arrived Friday night was to shovel through three feet of snow in order to setup our tents on the ground! We created a nice tent village with each tent surrounded by a wall of snow and we even had a sledding hill.   Everyone stayed warm and we missed winning the cooking competition by just a few points! There's always next year! The Shawnee Mountain Ski trip is coming up later in March so let's hope we can keep some of that February snow for skiing.

You definitely won't want to miss the March 30th Family Night where we'll have a fun slideshow featuring our winter activities and other fun stuff.  Be on the lookout for pictures of yourself and your patrol members  Cool

Yours in Scouting,

Ken Bauer
