BAUER'S BACKCOUNTRY BLOG - SEPTEMBER 2010 PDF Print E-mail

What a summer camp! Merit badges, hiking, awards, funnel cake, rope making, waiters, drinking mop-water, ping-pong, zip-lines, a water slide and even a florist delivery – so much fun crammed into 7 days!

We had 48 scouts and 11 leaders attend Resica Falls this year and 19 new scouts completed the Dan Beard program. We woke up every morning at 6:30 am to start our day with the polar bear swim, water slide included! Scouts went on to earn numerous merit badges including the 2010-only Carpentry and Tracking.  Scouts demonstrated impressive leadership and teamwork, winning the camp-wide cooking, gateway building and Big Springs Crusade competitions.  Scouts also completed their Order of the Arrow ordeal and brotherhood. Scouts and leaders completed the mile swim and raced dragon-boats on the lake.  Afternoon expeditions to Fossil Rock, Signal Mountain, Lookout Point and Little Falls were also memorable adventures.

The dedicated leaders of Troop 152 made these adventures possible. Many thanks to Mr. DeLong, Mr. Hornberger and Mr. Kelso for working through the endless details and to all the other leaders and mentors who kept things flowing throughout the week.  Thanks to Mr. Walsh for creating the real-time slide-show on the website and to Chris Nagele and Mr. Magee for serving up the funnel cakes on Friday night.

My backcountry blog challenge this month:  Who were the two scouts that won a free game of golf on the last hole of the Mother/Scout Mini-Golf outing on August 24th? If you are the first scout to give me both names (first and last) you will win fabulous prizes!

We hit the ground running in September – Bike Night, Bloomsburg Fair camping, Cub-O-Ree preparation and Family Night – you should plan on having a fun fall this year!

 Cool

Yours in Scouting,

Ken Bauer
